Tomorrow, KUSC will broadcast LA Opera’s spring production of Lucia di Lammermoor, starring Albina Shagimuratova in the title role. The broadcast is offered as part of the Southern California classical station’s LA Opera On Air, a weekly series of performances recorded live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
“Shagimuratova provided a show by herself,” wrote the OC Register of Albina’s performance. “As Lucia, she negotiated Donizetti’s hire-wire somersaults with ease and knocked everyone’s socks off. It’s a gorgeous voice, opulent and bejeweled, with a surprising volume and penetration for all its basic delicacy.”
