Soprano Albina Shagimuratova sings the title role in Rossini’s opera about a legendary Queen of Babylon on 4 September 2016 (Royal Albert Hall, London). Sir Mark Elder conducts Rossini’s operatic tragedy, which pushes singers to the limits of expression in recounting the story of Semiramide, Queen of Babylon, and her entrapment in a web of incest and revenge at the behest of her long-lost son. Vocal athleticism, vivid storytelling and Classical poise combine in Rossini’s rarely heard opera, performed in concert. Sir Mark Elder conducts the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Chorus of Opera Rara.
