as-lucia-fb copyOn February 1, Albina Shagimuratova will make La Scala history as the first Russian soprano to sing the title role in Donizetti’s  at Milan’s legendary Teatro alla Scala. Starring in Mary Zimmerman’s atmospheric production, Albina plays the role of the fragile Lucia, a woman in feudal Scotland torn between love and duty. Her performance of the role in Houston was praised by the New York Times, which wrote: “Baby faced and clarion voiced, Ms. Shagimuratova was a riveting Lucia, her flighty mad scene the stuff of nightmares.”

 

Albina is heard opposite tenor Vittorio Grigolo as Lucia’s lover, Edgardo. Massimo Cavalletti plays her brother, Enrico, and Orlin Anastassov sings the role of Raimondo. Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts.

 

Audiences can see Albina as Lucia on February 1, 7, 14, 19, 23, and 28.
